Geotagging is currently available on:
Support for iOS is coming in a future update. |
Overview:
Tracking attendance accurately is important, especially for remote or mobile teams. Geotagging helps by capturing the user’s location when they clock in or out. It records this as GPS coordinates, which are then converted into a nearby address.
What affects accuracy:
The device’s GPS hardware
The type of internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)
Whether the device is up to date
Omni’s geotagging uses your device’s location services. If the device is old or location permissions are off, the location might not be recorded correctly.
We recommend:
Keep devices and operating systems updated
Turn on Location Services and allow access for the Omni app or browser
Turn off VPNs when using a browser, as they can affect location accuracy
Enable collection of location information option on Work Schedule
Automatic clock in & clock out must be enabled for geotagging to function. Admins can turn on the these options via Settings > Work Schedule > Timesheet settings. More info can be read here; Turn On Automatic Clock In and Out for your Employees : Omni HR
Granting Location Permission for Geotagging
When geotagging is turned on, users clocking in or out through the Attendance Widget (on the Homepage or Attendance tab) will be asked to allow Omni to access their device’s location. This prompt will only show if permission hasn’t already been given.
Users can also manually enable location access in their device’s settings.
For Web Users:
If you're using Chrome, the location permission prompt will appear at the top left of the browser. Other browsers may show this request differently.
Android
User not allowed to clock in or out if location information permission is denied
If a user denies location permissions, they will be blocked from clocking in or out when geotagging is active. A clear error message will appear, prompting them to update their settings:
Coordinates and Address in Timesheets Report
In the Daily Breakdown tab of the Timesheets report, four new columns have been added:
Clock-in coordinates
Clock-in address
Clock-out coordinates
Clock-out address
Each row shows the location data tied to the clock-in and clock-out times for that day.
Example:
How the data works:
Coordinates are shown in longitude and latitude format (up to 8 decimal places, depending on device accuracy).
Addresses are based on the coordinates. If a proper address isn’t available, a Plus Code (e.g., 8R4H+2C Singapore) will be shown instead. You can copy and paste Plus Codes into Google Maps to find the location.
Note for iOS users:
Geotagging is not yet available on iOS.
iOS users can still clock in/out, but their coordinates won’t be recorded.
The Timesheets report will show empty fields for location data.
iOS support is coming in a future update.
