This article explains how OKR visibility works in relation to an employee’s position within the organizational hierarchy and special viewing permissions.

Default Visibility

By default, an employee’s OKRs are only visible to:

  • The Objective owner (the employee themselves)

  • Their Direct Manager

Scenario 1: Manager of Direct Manager

Org Hierarchy: Adi Sugi (Employee) → Hye Jin (Direct Manager) → Emily Tan (HOD)

Q: Can Emily Tan (HOD) see Adi Sugi's OKRs?
A: Only if Emily is explicitly added under “Who else can view”. If she is added, she will see Adi’s OKRs under the "My Indirect Reports" tab.

Scenario 2: Upper-Level Manager of Direct Manager

Org Hierarchy: Adi Sugi (Employee) → Hye Jin (Direct Manager) → Emily Tan (HOD) → Justin Bieber (C-Level)

Q: Can Justin Bieber (C-Level) see Adi Sugi's OKRs?
A: Only if Justin is added under “Who else can view”. If he is, the OKRs will appear under his "My Indirect Reports"tab OR if Justin has “View all OKRs of all employees” permission in Access Control.

Scenario 3: Other Colleagues (Not in Direct Hierarchy)

Q: If someone outside of the reporting line is added under “Who else can view”, where will they see the OKRs?
A: They will see them under the “Others That I Can View” tab.

Q: Who else can also see them under the “Others That I Can View” tab?
A: Users with “View all OKRs of all employees” permission in Access Control can view the OKRs of all employees.

Scenario 4: Users with “View all OKRs of all employees” Permission

Q: Who else can see OKRs of all other employees?
A: Users with this permission can view the OKRs of all employees under his "Others That I Can View"tab. In—except for:

  • Their own OKRs (already visible by default)

  • Their direct reports

  • Their indirect reports
